Facing the Unknown
The disciples are anxious and fearful because Jesus said that it is expedient that He go back to
the Father. They are worried about their “unknown” future without Him.
Facing and dealing with the unknown is a reality we all struggle with on a daily basis: There
are known unknowns, that is to say, there are things we know we don’t know; but there are
also unknown unknowns, meaning, things we don’t know that we don’t know. Our struggle
lies in these known and unknown unknowns.
Jesus ask the disciples to believe in Him, to have faith, that is to say, to have no fear of moving
in to the unknown; stepping out fearlessly knowing that He is with us, therefore no harm can
befall us. The message for us today is to never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known
God.
