No Dragon in Heaven
““MI-CA-EL”, (Hebrew) or “Who is like unto God?” was the cry of the great Archangel when he
smote the rebel Lucifer in the conflict of the heavenly hosts.
Michael was assigned to fight the devil. He was appointed to cast Lucifer out of Paradise for
challenging the sovereignty of God. The war broke out in Heaven. Michael and his angels
battled against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back but they did not prevail and
there was no longer any place for them in Heaven (Rev. 12:7-8).
From that hour he has been known as Michael, Captain of the armies of God, the Archetype of
divine fortitude, the Champion of every faithful soul in strife with the powers of evil. St.
Michael helps us in the daily struggle against Satan, who will be defeated in the apocalyptic war
at the end of time.
Prayer to St. Michael
Holy Michael Archangel, defend us in the day of battle, be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the
devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God,
thrust down to hell Satan and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
