Week 5: Christ is veiled but present!
These last two weeks of Lent are referred to as ‘Passiontide’. The Crucifixes, statues, and other sacred images are covered with a purple veil and remain covered until the Easter Vigil. These last two weeks of Lent are meant to be a somber time of preparation for the holy week and especially, the Sacred Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday). We focus our minds and our hearts on Jesus’ Passion and Death and how our own sins divide us from Jesus. These veils seem out of place and cover beautiful images. During these coming weeks, in the absence of these images, may we become more aware of what is missing so we can more fully share in the joy of His Resurrection.
